BAKTRIA, Indo-Greek Kingdom. Strato I, circa 105-85/0 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 2.31 g, 11 h), Indian standard, uncertain mint in Gandhara. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ ΣΩTHPOΣ - ΣTPATONOΣ Diademed and draped bust of Strato I to right. Rev. 'Maharajasa pracachasa tratarasa Stratasa' ('of Great King Straton the God manifest and Savior' in Kharoshti) Athena Promachos advancing left, holding shield on left arm and brandishing thunderbolt with her right; to loer left, monogram. Bopearachchi 27D. HGC 12, 346. MIG 331c. Very rare. A beautifully toned and exceptionally well preserved example. Extremely fine.

This very rare issue adds ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ to Strato's titles, a Hellenistic epithet meaning '[God] manifest' or '[God] appearing [on earth]'.
